Pumpkin Smash Smoothie, For Posterity
I got it in my head that I wanted to make a Pumpkin Smash smoothie. They used to make them at Jamba Juice in the fall. I had a lot of them. A lot a lot. I even attempted to make them at home, though they were never as good. Jamba Juice stopped making them a few years ago. I believe it may have coincided with Jamba being bought out by Starbucks.
I searched this blog, assuming I had linked to or perhaps even posted the recipe, but no go. I mentioned it a bunch of times back in the fall of 2003, but never included any useful information. No problem. I Googled.
1 cup soymilk
1/2 cup canned pumpkin pie mix with spices
2 cups vanilla frozen yogurt
1 cup icePour soymilk in blender.
Add pumpkin pie mix, frozen yogurt and ice cubes.
Blend until smooth with a thick consistencyMakes 3 cups
OM NOM NOM NOM.

I starred this. It sounds many kinds of delicious. Unrelated: Do you ladies have Veganomicon? We made a couple of yummy things from there recently. :D

Yes, we do have Veganomicon! Missy’s building quite the vegan cookbook library. We just made some pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, although we cheated and used regular chocolate chips. And the recipe wasn’t from Veganomicon. But the point is they are almost-vegan and they are delicious!

By the way, the recipe I found said 1/4-cup of pumpkin pie mix. I said 1/2-cup above because I liked it better. I recently made it with 1 cup of pumpkin pie mix and that’s been my favorite so far.
So put the pumpkin pie mix in last, to taste.

Those a-holes @ Jamba stopped making this when I was pregnant with my son in 2004. I really craved it and never forgave them.
I made this today… used vanilla ice cream (1 CUP), 3/4 cup pumpkin pie mix, 1 cup ice, and a splash more soy milk, with a dash of nutmeg. Yum!! :)

I had one yesterday! Oh happy day! It’s been six long years.

We’re hosed (or at least I am!). My local Jamba told me yesterday I was getting the last one because they had a problem with the pumpkin base distributor. I asked if he meant “last of the day” or “last of the year” and got the wrong answer. At least he gave me the Power Size to use up what they had at no extra charge. I wonder if it’s just Southern Cal or a nationwide great pumpkin screwup. Anyway I love these things so I’m going to try the above recipe. And for those who can’t get enough, I highly recommend the seasonal pumpkin scones at Starbucks. Now, I wonder why can’t I fit into these damn pants?

Frank – It’s a problem all over. I’m in Minnesota and recently discovered the Pumpkin Smash. (pure bliss!) Anyway – I asked how long they were going to have them. Initially they intended to have them through mid-January but they will be running out soon I was told. (due to the pumpkin mix-up)

Ooh, interesting article on the pumpkin shortage.
And I’m alarmed by this statement:
Not cool! Same way Monsanto has propietary soybean seeds and sues the hell out of any farmer trying to (legally) grow non-Monsanto seeds? Booooo!
