Worst to First
The Shock are playing in the WNBA Championships. I wish I had gotten my crap together and gotten to the game today, but I’m happy watching it on tv. Game 2 is going on right now. They have a pretty commanding lead, but it’s only halfway through the first half. They lost Game 1, so they have to win today to stay in it. Game 3 (and there will be a Game 3) will be in Detroit on Tuesday. I am so going to that.
UPDATE #1: No WNBA team has won the championship on the road. Detroit’s bench is much deeper than L.A.’s. Deanna Nolan looks pretty darned healthy after suffering a deep bruise to her tailbone in the final Eastern Conference Final game against Connecticut. At halftime, Detroit leads 38-22.
UPDATE #2: The Seattle Storm‘s Lauren Jackson was named the 2003 WNBA MVP. ESPN has a fun Page 2 interview with her. Michigan has the third-most number of female basketball players (after Texas and California). Lisa Leslie‘s getting on a roll and the Shock totally need to shut that down.
UPDATE #3: I suspect that female players cuss less than male players. Detroit is the youngest team in the league, averaging about 24 years old. I like that they actually jump the ball when a jumpball is called, instead of going with the posession arrow. The ladies are playing rough as hell; elbows are flying, bodies are bumping, folks are getting hooked. Lisa Leslie faked Ruth Riley right out of her shorts, and the game is tied with 3 minutes to go, goddammit.
UPDATE #4: They WON! They WON! I knew they would. There will be no three-sweep for the Sparks. Kedra Holland-Corn hit the game-winning free throws and Ruth Riley played some D on Lisa Leslie. The Palace was darned near full; official attendance was 17,846.
And not to take away from the team at all, but this is the best damned picture of Bill Laimbeer.

Bad Boys! Back 2 Back! Can’t Touch This! Sorry.
I’d cuss, too. A lot. They’d have to keep the tv cameras off my face.
